Tulip Growing Advice
- Plant in full sun to partial shade
- Tulips need cold temperatures in order to produce a bloom, and are best suited in climates that have 12-16 weeks of consistently cold temps (below 50 degrees) during the day.
- Drainage is essential to the survival of tulips. Plant in garden beds that have been amended with organic matter if your soil does not drain well.
- To encourage the possibility of blooms for the next season, keep the leaves intact until they have yellowed, withered and can easily be removed from the soil.
- Fertilize tulips in fall at planting with a slow release granular fertilizer. When leaves emerge in Spring you may fertilize your tulips again with the same slow release granular fertilizer.
